2015 Pro Wakeskater of the Year Danny Hampson Teams Up with Yamaha WaterCraft and the New Yamaha 242X E-Series Wake Boat

World-renowned professional wakeskater Danny Hampson is joining Yamaha WaterCraft as the company’s first sponsored wakesports athlete. Hampson, who was recently named the 2015 Pro Wakeskater of the Year by Wakeboarding® magazine, will help Yamaha promote its new 242X E-Series wakesports boat.

The Florida native is one of the most recognizable names in the watersports industry for the past 12 years. A multi-time national champion, Wake Awards® recipient, Alliance Wake™ Rider of the Year, and Masters Champion, Hampson is a fan favorite and competitive force. The story of his watersports career was recently highlighted on an ABC X Games® TV segment.

“I’ve been involved with Yamaha for the past five years doing media and development initiatives for their WaveRunner® personal watercraft, but I didn’t have much experience riding a jet-powered boat,” said Hampson. “I was immediately blown away by performance, features and wake of the 242X. With the triple ballast, electronic speed controls, and articulating keel for straight line tracking, this boat has everything I need to progress my riding. And it offers a complete package for watersports focused families looking for a great experience on the water.”

“Danny has been an innovator in the wake sports industry for years, and we look forward to having him bring that same energy and passion to our new high performance watersports boats,” said Andrew Cullen, Yamaha’s digital marketing and communications manager.

New for 2016, the 24’ Yamaha 242X E-Series boat is Yamaha’s first foray into the high-performance wake sports segment. This boat is designed for the watersports-focused family looking for all the must-have wake features, but who also want high-performance, cutting-edge electronics, and the excitement and fun that only Yamaha jet boats can deliver.

Key features of the Yamaha 242X E–Series include:

  • Triple ballast system that produces up to 1,400 pounds of added weight for controlling the size and shape of the 242X wake.
  • New GPS-based Yamaha Drive Control for programming acceleration, storing preferred towing speeds, and ballast system preferences.
  • Throttle-by-wire for smooth acceleration through the RPM range.
  • Premium sound system featuring two amplifiers for a combined 1,000 watts, a subwoofer, two can speakers mounted on the tower, six deck speakers, and a tower-mounted sound bar with an additional 10 speakers.
